Character editor and versions

How to iterate saved characters, assign voices, and manage active versions.

The character editor is a desktop-first workspace for editing one saved character.

Layout

The editor contains:

  • Top bar with back action and editable character name.
  • Role segmented control.
  • Voice picker.
  • Version dropdown.
  • Make active action.
  • Chat panel for iteration.
  • Portrait column.
  • 3D viewer stage.

Mobile character view is inspection-only and includes copy-link guidance for desktop editing.

Role control

The role segmented control supports:

  • On Screen.
  • Narrator.
  • Voice Only.

Changing role updates the saved character metadata.

Voice assignment

The top bar includes a compact voice picker. Use it to assign or change the default voice for the saved character.

If the character is used in future projects, that default voice can guide production.

Versions

Portrait history is stored oldest-first internally and shown newest-first in the editor. The version dropdown labels versions as v1, v2, and so on.

The currently active version is the one used as the saved character's reference image and 3D model. A newer version can exist without being active.

Use Make active when a previewed version should become the production reference.

Preview panel

The preview panel shows:

  • Active-version state.
  • Front portrait.
  • Back portrait when available.
  • 3D model if a mesh exists.
  • Guidance if only a portrait exists.

If no 3D model exists for the selected version, ask the assistant to sculpt one based on the portrait.

Character chat

Character chat can:

  • Update character details.
  • Regenerate portraits when requested.
  • Generate or update a 3D model.
  • Track progress stages.
  • Store conversation history.

Use specific requests:

  • "Make the face older and more tired, but keep the same clothing."
  • "Generate a back view that matches the front portrait."
  • "Give this character a calm, low, documentary narrator voice."
  • "Sculpt a 3D model from the current portrait."

Version discipline

  • Do not make a version active until you have checked both portrait and 3D result.
  • Keep older versions if they might be needed again.
  • Use clear character names before selecting the character in a project.
