What is Onira
A practical overview of Onira's current documentary production workflow.
Onira is an AI documentary production studio for ambitious YouTube creators. It turns a written brief into a structured cinematic production that can move from prompt, to blueprint, to measured narration and visuals, to a timeline, to a downloadable MP4 render.
The current product is not a blank video editor and not a single-shot clip generator. It is a production system with planning, cast and subject preparation, generated media, timeline review, render history, credits, workspace roles, and reusable character and voice libraries.
Most production time is spent in AI generation and render queues. The visible app keeps users oriented with project status, pipeline progress, credit reservations, blueprint approval, retry states, and render history.
Core idea
Onira is built around durable project artifacts:
- A prompt and production settings.
- A blueprint package with direction, characters, subjects, settings, voices, and references.
- A screenplay and storyboard.
- Generated images, video clips, narration, music, subtitles, and timeline data.
- Render attempts and downloadable MP4 outputs.
The product is designed so a user can inspect the production, regenerate specific assets, select versions, adjust timeline-level presentation, and render again without losing the project history.
Onira's initial commercial focus is original, narration-led history, civilization, and cultural-heritage filmmaking for monetized or client-funded YouTube creators. The same production system can also support:
- Documentary-style videos.
- Faceless YouTube channels.
- Educational explainers.
- Finance, science, history, and true-crime channels.
- Content agencies producing repeatable cinematic assets.
- Short cinematic stories and mini-documentaries.
It is not currently positioned as a talking-head avatar product, a social scheduler, a generic image sandbox, or a traditional nonlinear editor.
What one production can produce
One production can create:
- A structured screenplay and scene plan.
- Narration in the selected language.
- A generated cast and visual subject plan when needed.
- Reference portraits, subject images, and setting lookbooks for the blueprint.
- Cinematic still frames and generated clips for visual beats.
- Original music and timeline audio.
- Subtitles that can be styled in the project workspace.
- A downloadable MP4 render, up to the plan's export quality.
Onira works best when the brief includes the topic, audience, central question, format, tone, factual constraints, and any characters or source material that must be preserved. Generated facts, visuals, rights, and disclosure decisions still require creator review.
The production model
Onira uses a credit quote before starting provider-heavy work. You choose duration, language, aspect ratio, model profile, optional saved characters, and whether to pause for blueprint review. The app estimates both expected credits and a higher maximum reservation before the run starts.
After confirmation, the run moves through planning, blueprint preparation, asset generation, timeline assembly, and completion. If the latest run fails and can still be resumed, the project workspace can retry from the failed step instead of discarding completed work.
Rendering is separate from generation. A project must finish before the Export tab can start a render. Render attempts are kept in history, and failed renders can be retried without regenerating the entire project.

Desktop and mobile
The app has mobile views for core inspection and recovery. Project and character editing are desktop-first. On mobile, a project can still show status, render readiness, render history, and a copy-link action so the user can resume detailed editing on a larger screen.

This documentation explains the user-facing workflow and the operational rules you need to create, review, edit, render, and manage videos in Onira.
It does not expose proprietary prompt internals, provider orchestration code, private GraphQL schemas, or internal worker implementation details.
